What They Don't Teach in Pre-Natal Class: How to raise Mentally-Healthy, Bully-proof, Addiction-Free Teens
Why I decided to invest the time in writing a book
I'm writing this book because of my experience as a parent of a troubled, eating disordered teenager. In seeking a cure for her, I discovered the things I wish I’d known when my children were still very young. The big message that we must get across to children is that they are inherently worthy as human beings. This concept is not only the key to happiness, but is the key to recovery and so it must also be the key to prevention. I offer practical strategies that will help raise an addiction-free generation. Who is the book for?
The book is for parents of children of any age, but particularly for those who worry about a family history of addiction. Parents need to know that the negative beliefs that drive our behavior and our children’s behavior, and which can lead to addiction, get started in early childhood. While they can’t prevent their children from taking on these beliefs, they can help to counter them when they do. There are far reaching implications of taking this approach to parenting – it challenges some societal norms.
