Why I decided to invest the time in writing a book

I wrote this book because of my experience as the mother of a troubled teenager. In seeking a way to help my daughter, I learned valuable insights I wished I’d known when my children were still young. What They Don’t Teach in Prenatal Class is for parents of children of any age, but particularly for those who worry about a family history of depression or addiction.
Many people think that nurturing a child’s self-esteem is the answer. However, I discovered that the crucial message we must get across to children is that they are inherently worthy as human beings. Self-esteem is easily lost, but our Inherent Worth (IW) never changes. This concept is not only the key to happiness, it is also the key to prevention and to recovery.
You need to know that the negative beliefs that drive our behavior and our children’s behavior, and which can lead to addiction, get started in early childhood. While you can’t prevent your children from taking on these beliefs, you can help to counter them when they do.

You will learn how to:

  • Understand your child’s behavior and how to change it.
  • Turn off your hot buttons and deescalate conflict.
  • Improve communication with all members of the family.
  • Strengthen your relationships (not just with your children).
  • Gain a new perspective on your role as a parent.
What They Don’t Teach in Prenatal Class also offers practical strategies that will help raise a kinder, happier, generation.

“This is a profound and authentic book that can change your life. Because Anne Andrew had the courage to see her child’s behavior problems as ‘cries for love,’ they became opportunities for growth for both her and her child. By tackling her negative beliefs, Andrew learned about unconditional love and even gratitude. Here are wise words from someone who learned the hard way how to raise a child with an inherent sense of worth.”

"This is a wonderful 'go to' book if anyone is feeling lost or confused on the parenting journey. Anne gives us a very honest account of her own story with her teenager, and gives us the tools (Choose Again Six Steps to Freedom) for healing and regaining our Inherent Worth. This book is so needed in our society today. By healing our own false beliefs of who we think we are, we become better examples for our children, who are indeed the future! Wonderfully written, simple and easy to follow, Anne has given us the steps and 'how to's' for healing. Happy parents equals happy kids! Brilliant Book!!"

"I found this book fascinating, profound and refreshing. It goes far beyond the traditional how-to help books for parents of troubled kids and teens as it establishes that relational problems are caused by the lack of "Inherent Worth" originating with the parent. Just by becoming a parent does not diminish or change negative, restricting self-beliefs, but rather transfer them on to the child. Transformation begins with working on yourself for which the author has a simple, easy to use method, the "Choose Again Six-Step Process". Bottom line is that each one of us has "Inherent Worth" by just being, something that cannot be sought or bought – it simply is. No more, no less. When we establish our own self-worth, self-respect and self-love we find peace, gratitude and joy within. This balanced state of self can change any situation with ease, thus supporting us in healing our children through acceptance and unconditional love."
